The Independent By Leota Harriman Robert Liebman of Edgewood threw his hat into the race for the first congressional district seat now held by Republican Heather Wilson when he delivered 4,118 signatures to the Secretary of State last week. The deadline for independents to file nominating petitions was June 7, and Liebman said he expects to hear by the end of the week whether the required signatures of 3,123 registered voters were obtained. |

The Associated Press SANTA FE — An independent candidate has filed to run in the, Albuquerque-area 1st congressional district in the November general election. Robert A. Liebman of Edgewood filed his nominating petitions last week. His candidacy hasn't been certified yet because the Secretary of State’s Office is checking to determine whether he submitted the required signatures of 3,128 registered voters, Ernest Marquez, director of the state bureau of elections, said Mondav. Wednesday was the filing deadline for independent candidates, who are unaffiliated with a political party. |
